about

This is a charity compilation. All proceeds go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The organization was created to raise awareness, offer support, fund research and call for action in regard to advancing a national response to the problem of suicide. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S.—43.7 million, or 18.6%—experiences mental illness in a given year. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. (more common than homicide) and the second leading cause of death for people aged 15–24. The goal of this compilation is to expose bands I love to a wider audience, while donating to a good cause.

I want people to know that they aren’t alone. If you are suffering from depression or any other mental disorder, reach out to someone. This is a topic that hits close to home for me as I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder./ Dysthymic Disorder The brain is a muscle just like any other muscle in the body. It can get sick. Just because something is mental doesn’t make it any less real or serious. It’s ok to take medicine and to seek help if you need. Life is too valuable to be lived in constant pain. It’s scary to admit you have a problem but it’s worth it to address it so that you’re not stuck in quicksand and can move forward in your life. You don’t have a crystal ball. You don’t know what life has in store for you. Keep your head up and keep moving forward. This compilation will be released on Mental Health Awareness Day. Links to all the bands are included on the info section of each track.

Before choosing a donation amount, please take in consideration that Bandcamp takes out a small portion of the money to host the album on their site. Please go download the record. If you feel inclined, throw cash my way. All tracks with an asterisk placed next to them are previously unreleased songs. Please share it on your zines, social media sites and with your friends if you want. The songs with an asterisk next to them are unreleased.

“If you know someone who’s depressed, please resolve never to ask them why. Depression isn’t a straightforward response to a bad situation; depression just is, like the weather. Try to understand the blackness, lethargy, hopelessness, and loneliness they’re going through. Be there for them when they come through the other side. It’s hard to be a friend to someone who’s depressed, but it is one of the kindest, noblest, and best things you will ever do.”
