Joe McMahon is a native of Boston, MA. He's been writing songs and performing in bands since his late teens, but is best known as the front man and primary song-writer for Richmond-based punk band Smoke Or Fire, who signed to FAT wreck chords in 2005. The band recorded 3 records on FAT while playing shows around the world, including headlining tours of North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia.

In 2013 Joe moved to Münster, Germany with a bag of clothes and two guitars. He has played nearly 300 shows in 17 countries since then. During this time, he penned his most personal songs which appears on his new solo album Another Life. Another Life came out on September 2, 2016 through Smartpunk Records (U.S) and Gunner Records. (Europe)

Smoke Or Fire released their last album, “The Speakeasy,” November 9th 2010 on Fat Wreck Chords.
